The first National Military Park in the United States, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, was established in 1890. It honors the soldiers who fought in the Civil War at the battles of Chickamauga in September 1863 and Chattanooga in November of the same year. The park consists of 8200 acres on the Tennessee/Georgia border.

Hunter Museum of American Art

The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay, designed by Jack Nicklaus, stretches from 7,140 yards (gold tees) to just under 5,300 yards (red tees) with 18 holes, Par 72. Referred to as "the best natural piece of land for a golf course," the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay features Bermuda fairways lined with soaring pine and hardwood trees.

This stretch of river offers canoeing, rafting, fishing, hiking and nature photography. A scenic portion of the John Muir trail winds through the river gorge. Numerous public access sites provide boat-launching ramps. At the Gee Creek campround, picnic areas, sanitary facilities and primitive camping are available. Adjacent is the Gee Creek Wilderness of the Cherokee National Forest. The Ocoee River is a premier white-water river in the Southeastern United States possessing Class III, IV, and V rapids.

Booker T. Washington State Park

Situated on the shores of scenic Chickamauga Lake not far from the city of Chattanooga is 353-acre Booker T. Washington State Park. Park recreation activities include hiking, field games, playgrounds, basketball, badminton, horseshoes, volleyball and board games. Recreation equipment is available free of charge at the park office.
Cloudland Canyon State Park

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and beautiful vistas. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet. Visitors who hike to the bottom of the gorge find two waterfalls cascading over layers of sandstone and shale into pools below.

Harrison Bay State Park

The 1,200-acre Harrison Bay State Park, with approximately 40 miles of Chickamauga Lake shoreline, was originally developed as a Tennessee Valley Authority recreation demonstration area in the 1930's.This beautiful wooded park is a haven for campers, boaters and fishermen, as well as picnickers and other day-use visitors from Chattanooga and the surrounding tri-state area.
Red Clay State Park

The historic park encompasses 263-acres of narrow valleys formerly used as cotton and pasture land. There are also forested ridges that average 200 feet or more above the valley floor. The site contains a natural landmark, the Blue Hole Spring, which arises from beneath a limestone ledge to form a deep pool that flows into Mill Creek, a tributary of the Conasauga and Coosa River system. The spring was used by the Cherokee for their water supply during council meetings.

Take a tour on the Tennessee River in unique ex-military amphibious vehicles made for the US Army to land troops on beaches during wartime.
